About Laurel

I've been sewing off and on all my life. I got more serious about it after I got married. I started by sewing doll clothes, but I always wanted to make quilts. Then I started quilting when I was expecting my first son. I have two sons.

I was an art teacher for ten years before I had my kids.

I am co founder and perpetual board member of the Greater Atlanta MQG

My other interest is animals. I currently have 3 cats, 1 snake and 8 geckos. Plans are underway for chickens in the spring.

I didn't know about longarms when I started sewing. I was only aware of hand quilting, maybe on a large wood frame or in a hoop, which seemed slow and daunting to me, or quilting on a domestic machine which only seemed fitting for smaller projects. So I was completely taken when I first became aware of the longarm. I first took a class at a quilt shop. Then my GAMQG co founder friend moved her mother's longarm to her new house. She gave me more instruction and I began quilting with paper pantographs at her house. In 2019 I bought my own longarm, a Handiquilter Avante. In 2023 we finished our basement which allowed me to have a dedicated space to expand my full 12 foot frame and longarm. This is also when I decided to start quilting for others. I currently quilt computerized edge to edge pantographs for customers. I have also continued to take classes in free motion quilting, including from Karlee PorterChristina Cameli and Angela Walters.
